Botcmd/Botcommand limitations
« on: January 23, 2006, 01:48:04 PM »
Hey,

a LONG time ago, me and Demi were playing with the ACEbots in dp by trying to make them into controllable 'puppets' so we could have some fun on our own servers (the initial idea was making them viewgib on mouse1 so we could all play against a single bot - controlled by one of us - which would kill on sight, to see if we could beat it).

we quickly found that we couldnt control the movements of the bots as commands that began with a '+' were just 'said' by the bot, not executed. I reasoned this was probably to stop nefarious users from cobbling together what is basically an aimbot (though id imagine you'd have to have high enough ops on your own server to add a bot), but i was wondering if this was actually the case?

commands like: botcommand test +attack
would just end up said like 'test: +attack'

but commands like: botcommand test tossgren
would actually work, and the bot would just lob a nade right infront of it.

you can Op a bot by typing botcmd login <pass>, which i dont really see the point in, but you cant kick anyone with the bot.

Actually, the "+" commands are a completely different type of command.  When you press a button bound to "+attack" for example, it doesn't actually send the string "+attack" to the server.  It sets a flag indicating that the attack button is being pressed.
