Try deleting paintball2\pball\serverlist.dat and pressing "update" again.  If that doesn't work, go to the console (press ~) after you've hit update, and see if there are any errors.

Ok.  Do you have to use a proxy or anything to access web pages?  Can you access http://dpball.com/serverlist.php ?  It seems like there's something preventing paintball2 from connecting to the serverlist for whatever reason.

ok, well, I'll try print out some more information in build 16 so hopefully we can figure out where the problem is.

For now I'd suggest using an out-of-game browser if you're not already.  http://www.udpsoft.com/eye/ is a good free one, and it's not owned by the evil gamespy empire so that's a bonus.

Just manually point the Quake 2 game to c:\blahblahblah\paintball2.exe and open up Paintball underneath Other in the hierarchy tree on the left and press F5.

Or you can setup a custom command line for pball to use paintball2.exe while still using the regular Quake 2 exe for other q2 mods, but I'm assuming that if you don't use an out-of-game browser already then you don't have Quake 2.

You're right, it's now owned by the evil Yahoo! empire, and with the state that the game browser is in in terms of supporting new games (read: Quake 4) it almost makes me wish I had never bought my lifetime registration. :(

Try grabbing the standalone pb2 server browser and see how that works out: http://dpball.com/forums/index.php?topic=1683.0 (scroll to the end and grab the last attached file).
