Linux server help
« on: March 22, 2009, 03:00:16 PM »
First I would like to say hi to all :)

I have a dedicated Box running Linux (centos 5)
The problem that I am having is when I try to run the command line:

./paintball2 +set dedicated 1 +ip 195.242.236.65 -port 27025 +set public 1 +exec server.cfg +map midnight2

I get the error that I can't run pball from root!
I'm using putty for ssh access to my box but it logs me in straight to root!

Can anyone help me plz?

NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER ~ run it as root.

Run it on another account.

Never run any outfacing server as root. If there's some exploit in the server, attackers have all the privileges of root.
