Just curious - for those working the standard 5-day, 40-hour work week.

The only way I would do that is if I could work that one days womewhere else and get paid.

For all practical purposes, I would still need that one days pay, so no.

Unemployment is over ten percent in California right now. If it was a choice between unemployment and a 4 day work week I would choose the four day and try to rustle up some more side work. I'm just glad to have a job and thankful for this game. The company I work for is a direct result of Digital Paintball 2 so cheers to you jitspoe.

200 FTE's have done exactly that in order to keep 40 jobs at our company.  (640 were supposed to be laid off in germany, now only 600).  I'd not want to work less tho, I want the money :D

The 40-hour week is still around?  Wow, I wonder if my boss knows that...

Pro: Working less days and making less money makes you less of a target for a layoff
Con: If your shift were to be picked up/done by someone more efficient/talented and your absence is virtually unnoticed, you suddenly become that much more expendable.

37.5 hours a week, wouldn't give up the day as the pay is all important

I work 4 10 hour days. I get up early as crap (which thanks to the kids would happen anyways) and get home by 4 pm. Three days off. It's like a mini vacation.

At the moment I'm doing a leave the house at 7:30, get home 20:30 (Commuting sucks, staying in a hotel in middle of nowhere sucks more)

It just depends on if you can pay the bills and that 20 percent is just for extras.

To compare, my wife decided not to work but to stay home with the kids. That is an extra salary that we don't have. But we don't really miss it. We have less extras but more time off. She can do the housework while I am at work, so that we don't have to both do it after work. And and we don't have to pay for daycare or mess with picking up/dropping off the kids etc.

Sometimes a simpler life is more important than money.  So if you could still do fine with 20 percent less money, then I would say go for it. Life is to be lived not survived.

On the other hand if you need every penny to pay the bills, then you just can't cut back.
