Haha, negative price.  "We'll pay you $5 to take this stock!"

Stupid feds scaring people with higher instrest rates. Good time to purchase? Not yet. It will get slightly lower.

FYI Below is all public information.

I have invested more in ATT (the company I work for) as they are buying out Southern Bell thus acquiring 100% of Cingular plus the roll out of Project Lightspeed aka U-verse. Our stock and most Telcos have underperformed in the last 6 years due to regulations and the fact that a lot of companies (MWI / Worldcom / Quest and others) folded in 2002 owing us billions. Right now we (formally SBC) have been averaging around $25 a share the last 6 years, the company anticapates this to double by '08. CHA CHING!!

I would be glad to bet anyone 50 dollars it will. :)

What's the best way to go about investing?  I have some money in various managed funds, but I have never actually invested in stocks directly.

I could buy 2 shares of AT&T and take loial up on his bet.  Either way, I'll money. ;)

the whole telco industry is suffering atm. People are moving away from the "traditional" methods of keeping in touch. Thats why you'll see alot of telco's moving into new areas, exploiting the internet and new entertainment media.

BT over here is putting alot more time and effort into VOIP and its broadband service, but also looking into new areas, such as the entertainment industry and providing TV on demand over broadband. Triple play is all the rage :P

Next step is four play, where they try to get other companies in bed with them. ;)
