Mist in bsp?
« on: January 21, 2012, 07:52:54 PM »
How does mist work in bsp? I wanted to add some mist to water and so i simply selected the mist option and hit apply brush, tested but nothing seemed to happen. Do I need to do something else? or is mist not compatible with certain brushes.
      Thanks.

 1. Find a map that has mist, with settings you would like in your map.
 2. Decompile the map (for learning purposes).
 3. Look what settings are used there. Adapt them to your map.
 4. Start playing with mist settings so you're happy.
 5. Create a mist tutorial for others.

What do you want to create? Maybe you should start with an easy map and just play with the tools, surface properties, etc. before trying to do advanced stuff.

Note that the mist flag in bsp has nothing to do with fog or something else. It's useless in combination with a water brush.

that's smoke. U can't do this with the surface window.
Therefore u need some entities, i don't know which exactly. Chef knows, but like he said you should start wih something easy.
