map uh.... "changing"
« on: October 17, 2003, 07:36:37 PM »
there are some maps that i think would be a lot more fun if they were... "changed". like spark...it would be a ton more fun if you started out w/ autocockers. But, i'm not sure if the person who made that is around anymore. So, i went into the bsp file to "change" that. That gave me a version error. any other way to do that/ overcome the error?

I was always told to edit the *.ent files.....  I never really figured out how to do it.  Check with the er33t people and see if they can help you out with this one.

.ent files allow the modification of entities on a map file such as items(amerkers, co2, paint, barrels) spawns, flags and whatever else isn't considered a compileable entity.  There are a few players that currently know how to do this, but in order for the changes made in the .ent file to be applied, they need to be installed on the server's side.

Starting with autocockers is lame -- I hate sprayfests -- and a map like spark would be better off being redone from scratch (and lit!!!).

lol.. if you want it done, do it yourself. You CAN, you just dont want to learn how (its really pretty simple if you look at examples). Ill start you off, first find an example on Sads servers, next you will need winbspC to decompile a BSP file to a .MAP format.. then you open that .map file in a text editor like notepad or wordpad.. you figure the rest out =]

Alternatively you can just rip the txt required for the .ent directly out of the.bsp file itself.

Hehe, it probably thinks it's a brush model because of the func_ prefix.
