Paintball2 Compatibility Issues in Windows
« on: February 13, 2012, 08:50:34 PM »
I need help figuring out why so many people are having trouble getting Paintball2 to run, as the uninstall surveys indicate.  If you've had any issues getting Paintball2 to run, please share any relevant information and what you did to fix it.

On what type of os? Had no trouble downloading the game with windows xp. And if u could provide more info on what people said their issue was, for example did they get a not responding or an error message?

Well, people filling out the install surveys don't usually elaborate.  That's why I've started this thread.  I need to get any information on problems getting the game to run that I can so I can hopefully address them in future versions.

Hello,

i tried to start the game but it crashed immediately after clicking the link ("not responding" message).

my system:
- desktop pc
- vista x64
- amd quadcore cpu
- 4gb ram
- amd HD3400 graphic with catalyst 12.1 driver
- install folder "F:\Spiele\paintball2" no error while installation

in event manager there is the following message:
"Fehlerhafte Anwendung paintball2.exe, Version 35.2012.1.9, Zeitstempel 0x4f0b4cdc, fehlerhaftes Modul testw.dat, Version 0.0.0.0, Zeitstempel 0x4ec028e1, Ausnahmecode 0xc0000005, Fehleroffset 0x00009794, Prozess-ID 0xee0, Anwendungsstartzeit 01ccf0df86f89f20."

one tipp from IRC-Chat-User was to try iout the parameters für the link "+exec server.cfg +set dedicated 1 +set public 0 +map arenaball" -> server console starts.

Thanks for the information, BlueScorpion.  Anybody else using 64bit vista?

Yes, but works fine here.

Is there a way to debug it (without compiling an own exe) or save the console messages automatically to a log file? Maybe the console had something interesting, but it is too fast to show / read it.

Wonder if it's potentially related to running under an admin account or not.  What kind of account do you have?

Admin.
I created a new (user) account to test it, but paintball starts without any problems.

Is this crash from a full fresh install?  Have you had any other versions installed or have you tried to install any additional things (texture packs, etc)?

Yes it was an full fresh install, not an update.
I never installed the game before in a previous version.

it is without any extras at this moment.

I've been super busy at work, so I haven't had time to reply to forum posts and such.  Sorry about that.

I thought most of the running issues were with windows 7, but from the uninstall surveys, it looks like about as many people are having issues getting it to run on XP as well.

I am really not sure what they have tried but it seems like if you go to properties and run the game in compatibility mode for xp (etc), and run it as an admin it fixes every problem that I have had with other games that choose not to run on my 64bit windows 7. This game was never an issue for me, but that could be the issue for some people.
