New Map: RockiCe Beta
« on: June 12, 2006, 08:46:15 PM »
Well, my first public map, beta version, not a big map.
It's my 2nd map, so don't worry if you like it :)

Its good, but it seems to be influenced by other maps, such as arctic/pb_cup, Jits suggested to others that they not use exhisting dpball maps as an influence, becuase they are all very basic. A lot of them contain the same parts of the maps, just rearanged, such as the barrels in the middle, you have the hang of making maps, now make some original ones that are like nothing anyone has played in dpball before.

Not to be harsh, but this map is a mess.  Textures and brushes are misaligned everywhere.  There are even barrels overlapping each other.  Did you use the grid at all?  It would be less work to start over from scratch and make it properly than to try to clean it up.  It looks like it did not fully compile due to leaks, so it's not even ready to be beta tested.  Quite honestly, I'd say chalk it up as experience and work on a new map.  The first couple maps anybody makes should almost never be released.

And if you're going to start over, re-do the layout. More than one path would be nice, but that would require NOT using pbcup as inspiration.

Did you run that through some kind of terrible foregn-language-to-engilsh translator? ;)

EDIT: Speaking of which...

I think the map looks pretty fun. Who cares about the problems, just try fixiing them and release this map cause I thik it would be a good pub map.

Before you do anything else, you need to fix the leak (and don't just put a box around the whole thing, either).  BSP has a built in leak-check under the file menu.  After that, fix all the misaligned brushes and things like barrels overlapping, then add some alternative paths.
