While browsing the web for any new free FPS games, I came across this article:
http://www.newlc.com/DRG-3D-brings-Quake-based-games.htmlBasically, it says that a company is releasing an (expensive) engine to developers so that they can port their Q and Q2 based games to portable devices relatively easily. Seeing as Paintball is still *based* on Quake2, modifications to the code could probably be made to support DP.
The Article is now 2 and a half years old, so the previously exorbitant prices for the engine have fallen, and, perhaps, just perhaps, a team of coders could port Paintball to GBA and Series60 phones. Firstly, there would have to be some work done to change the game accordingly:
Better bots with waypoints (this is already in planning i believe...) as the oppurtunities for multiplayer would be possible though limited
Smaller maps for fewer players (maybe include smaller versions of classics)
Support for multiplayer via Bluetooth (S60) and link cable (GBA)
Support for adding maps via MMC & SD cards (S60) and GBA flash Cartridges, on which the game would have to be distributed.
I realise that this would be a very expensive project, but i think if everyone in the community put $1 towards it, and some good coders agreed to give up some of their spare time, then maybe we could attract many new players and more importantly, BE ABLE TO PLAY DP ANYWHERE, even over WAP on our mobiles!
(If the compatibility can be increased to 100%, imagine never missing a clan match by playing over WAP from your mobile, however difficult...)
This has probably been suggested before on a post, but i couldn't (be bothered to) find it.
*One problem.. The website link for the engine has died... we'd have to contact bobbee_tec directly*
