Crosshair
« on: March 03, 2007, 07:14:39 PM »
I have recently downloaded GIMP so I will be able to create HUDs and crosshairs, the only problem is I don't know how to create a crosshair, is there a starting template or do I just start from scrach? Also is it okay to modify the colors of other crosshairs, or is that agaisnt the rules?

I had an idea to make a transparent crosshair, so you can still see players moving behind the crosshair, instead of them disapearing behind the crosshair, however I am not sure if this is possible.

Can anyone help?  :)

Oh and if I am able to create a crosshair, what kind kind of mode should I save it under: is it a JPEG, or what?

32bit TGA or 8bit PCX (with the last color being the transparency).

Transparent crosshairs suck. I played some q2 mode (dooms day or somethign) and there was no crosshair, couldnt hit anything.

Transparent crosshairs suck.

You do know that all of the current crosshairs have transparent parts, right?

Jitspoe is there a starting template for making crosshairs?  If not can you make one? Or instruct me on how to? I have noticed that the backgrounds of the other crosshairs are just a wierd greenish color, is that because that color isn't picked up by the game?

If you're using the pcx files, the cyan color is transparent.  If you're using the tga files, there's an alpha channel that controls transparency.

just file|save as one of the current crosshairs as like ch50.pcx (or .tga) in your pball/pics directory then type "crosshair 50" in the console to use it.  You can use any number you'd like, but keep it a high value so the crosshairs in the release won't overwrite them.
