help
« on: March 31, 2007, 06:43:26 PM »
I have started to esperiment with making maps.  I had a room compile ok with no leaks.  I saved the map and ate lunch.  I came back and the map didn't compile at all.  What the harry is happening.  I have all the walls, floor, and ceiling like in the ladder tutorial and it doesn't compile.  It doesn't say ****leaked****.  When the map should be loading, in the concil, a bunch of messages pass by say something about not having a file.

Spook

It looks like you don't have the textures that are used in the right folder. They should be in pball\env but they are not there (I'm assuming).

Does the map sitll load up though? Because if it does then you just don't have the textures in the right place.

No the map doesn't open.  I get an error and windows closes out of the game.

It might be some kind of compiling error then. Try recompiling the map and then see if it works.

Could you post the .map file? It sounds like you did something really odd with the textures or something.

For some reason, that seems to be a Hexen 2 mapfile. You don't even have a worldspawn, but I'm not sure if those things are related.
My advice is to start over from scratch. You are using the lastest BSP back, right?

The "env" folder has the environment pics, or the 'sky', in it. In order for it to work it needs "lf", "bk", "rt", "up", and "dn" attached to the end of the file names (but before the extention). It would look like "myskyrt.jpg", "myskyup.jpg" etc. It looks like to put in the world spawn an empty "sky" key, so it is looking for 6 non-existant files. However, I that shouldn't make the game crash.

Ok, I took a look at your map file, you don't have a worldspawn for some reason. It should look something like the first pic. Yours is the second pic.

By the way, occasionally after a while, when I test the map, a banana with a cartoon bubble replaces the brash texture.  Why is this?  The sky is fine but the banana texture is on the ground.

Like I said this map is such a work in progress i posted those pics after 30minutes of working on it.
I have started to add more details and the map will turn out better, i have also made it better in game play and its not a straight map and has alot more detail. I will post new screeny's soon after i finish one side of the base.

The map will be good i promise.
