converting .dm2 to .wmv
« on: June 08, 2007, 01:29:07 PM »
is there a way to do such a thing? and if there is, does the program cost a fortune? I have some experience with converting quicktime videos to wmv, and i used like river sumthing-or-other video cleaner to convert them, but it got deleted off my computer. anyway, i dont think there was a setting for dm2 (obviously).

why do i want to do this, you might ask?

bcuz.

im going to work on an officially-unannounced video collection of demos me and my friends have made, to the background music of an officially unannounced song.

btw, is there anyone i should give credit to in the copyright section at the end, like who could sue me if i didnt? i dont want to lose money, i need it for real paintball.

thnx,
Steeb

You'd need something like fraps.  dm2 files are nothing more than a collection of packets sent from the server.  They aren't a video format.  They have to be replayed through the game.

darn i guess we'll have to go through with it the old fashioned way and video tape the computer screen while playing.

Thats legal, right?

You can look around for a free one. Whatever you do though, don't make the file .wmv, .wmv's are crap.

Just run the in-game demo again and record it using fraps?

k its done. its 3:46/7 long and its pretty kool. kinda sux for my first one. i used KRUT for the recording part, and i didnt really have a choice on the format, so yes its in wmv X(

ill put it on youtube and myspace prolly (where the rest of my crap goes) under tags like digitalpaint, paintball, FMclan, you know, the obvious ones.

back in the quakeworld days, [on edit - blues news, stomped, redwoods news] one quakenews site did their news pieces once a week in game on a custom map like a news broadcast.  Funny as hell, I just dont remember if it was demo files or if they were converted to vid clips.

darn old age......

It's really choppy.  I'm not sure if you can do anything about that, but with as fast paced as this game is, it's hard to tell what's going on.  Also, the title "Digital Paint FM clan games" implies clan matches, but it looks like these are short clips recorded from pub games.

KnacK: I'm pretty sure they were just demos.  I miss those days.

all the games involved 2+ members of [FM], so whatever.
