iPod help

OK my firend gave me his iPod and he said it didn't work, so I took a look at it and sure enough it doesn't.
This is what happens when I plug it into my computer: usb port notice
              energy surge detected on usb port
               to fix, click message and reset usb port.
Ok i did that already and I tried and tried again to get his iPod to connect but it won't.
I tried resetting his iPod ans still it does the same thing, btw it happens on any com not just his and mine.
Is there anyway I can fix this without him shipping it to apple?

Tell him to get a Zune. There problem solved.

A quick search yielded someone who had a similar problem, and someone explained that it was a bad 5v psu issue with the motherboard, but in your case this doesn't seem to be the problem as it occurs with different PC's.

My advice is send it back, if it's under warranty or guarantee.

My iPod is my baby.
A kid dropped it from about 5 inches high and I cried.

Are you using the same usb cord for both computers, maybe thats the problem.
If not, send it back, and you'll get a new little bundle of joy.

No it's not the cord, and ok ill tell him to send it back.
BTW kilo zunes are good but I'd take and iPod over a zune anyday.
