Hacking?

Ive noticed alot of players joining games, and they glow yellow and have a little sparkle trail behind them.. is this a hack or what?

what server? i remember seeing this like a year ago on Sads server, and had no idea back then what it was. occasionally people would glow and weird diamond shaped objects would fall from the sky and kill you with a trail behind them, it was so strange.
