Server specs help.
« on: January 06, 2008, 08:53:40 AM »
Well, I have a few ideas for unique servers that I'd like to host, so I think I will rent a VPS. I have only ever hosted a server at home before, so:

- How much RAM do I need for 5/6 servers
- Where can I find a VPS service that allows game servers
- How much bandwidth needed for 5/6 servers with map downloads

My budget is limited to £10/month (20$/month)

@Olbaid: this means you'll get the server i promised you a year or so ago :D

V,

Back in 1999/2000 I ran around 4 to 6 dp servers and a couple of CS servers on a dual p3-450 box with 512 meg ram.  My curernt servers are a dual core 1.8 gig with 4 gig ram.

Hopefully XB will chime in and let you know what his boxes run on.

You may want to talk to Lekky and see what kind of rig he has got with his servers.

Hey guys, I know this is a bit off topic, but I was just wondering this:

How come in counter strike: source I get 40 ping to a server hosted in texas, and in dp I get 100?

only way to compare that is if both servers were essentually in the same rack at the same provider.
