I think having a scheduled time, server, and map selection should be a requirement for clan matches. We really need to get some more organization going on in the clan scene. These spontaneous "mini-matches" rather suck.
An idea for general execution would be something like this:
Clan A posts a general challenge in the forum, stating:
- Desired time and date (ie: Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005, 4:00PM EST)
- Desired number of players (ie: 5v5)
- Map choice (ie: ub_rooftop)
- List of potential tiebreaker maps: (ie: castle1, midnight2, roundup, sphouse)
Clan B accepts the challenge. They select a team color on the map that Clan A chose (this may need to wait until the match start in the case of random weapon spawning maps), pick a map of their own, and select a tiebreaker map from the list.
Of course, things may not all work out neatly like that, Clan B may say, "Well, we'll match if you can move it to 5:00 instead of 4:00", or "We can only 4v4", or "We don't like the selection of tiebreaker maps -- can we do x, y, or z instead?" and all of that can be worked out ahead of time instead of on the server. Trying to come up with a tiebreaker map in the server sucks.
Eventually I plan to get some web scripts and whatnot set up to facilitate match scheduling, but for now, I think using the forum would be a good idea, or even irc or email. Just start getting some more organization! Yes, it's just a game, but it can be a lot more fun if some serious planning and organization is put into it.
