lol
I saw Iron Maiden on the Number of the Beast tour for the first time.
The second time I saw Iron Maiden was the PowerSlave tour. Twisted Sister opened for them.
Me and the friend I rode with dropped a couple hits of acid each. We were a little late getting to the show, and were in the parking decks hitting a fatty just starting to peak on the cid. Out of nowhere a guy pokes his head in the driver's side window, holds out a small pamphlet and yells "YOU'RE BUSTED..................for being under the influence of GOD..." I don't know what we looked like to him, all trippin and high, but he very quietly said he was sorry and slowly walked away without turning his back on us.
Let me say first that I absolutely hated Twisted Sister then. We walked in with our 12th row floor seats as TS was in into there set. As we broke through the inner arena, both tripping balls, TS kicked into one of their songs I hadn't ever heard at that point, "You're Gonna Burn In Hell." That song absolutely blew me away. TS was also the first band I ever saw stop the show and ask for the lights to be turned on so Dee could see everyone in the place. What a rush.
Later on Iron Maiden hit the stage and did not disappoint. When the song, "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" kicked in I was absolutely toasted trippin and what Maiden did on that song sent me into orbit. At the beginning of the song, a nice calm melodic intro, the entire light rig dropped down to just above the bands head. Being marine like, they only had blues, greens, and purples lit up and shifting colors like you were underwater. The whole light rig was undulating and changing shape like waves while a loud creaking noise played. Almost overwhelming in my condition.
I was singing in a band that did a good bit of maiden back then. After the show we hung out as usual. As we made our way back to the now empty parking decks I remember singing at the top of my lungs, "YEAH EEE AH EE AHHHHH.... HALLOWED BE THY NAAAAME," over and over.
Maiden ROCKS!!!
ooo i'm old...Powerslave was released and toured in '84
