constantly loosing connection
« on: January 29, 2008, 11:47:14 AM »
--- configuration: ------

windows xp, sp2
ADSL connection 512kbps (NAT-ed, behind router)
paintball2, v2.00 Alpha (build 20)

--- problem: -------------

when i join a game server, conncetion lasts for about 2 seconds, then i freeze (i can freelook, but can not move), and icon appears in top left corner indicating lost connection. i am obviously in a game, since my lost connection doesn't stop people from killing me. :)

i can play "hosted" game with bots without problem - it runs perfectly.

also, my internet connection is ok since i can access the internet, mail, ftp...

what is the problem, and are there any ideas how to solve it?

idk, id assume if the router was blocking paintballs port that you wouldnt be able to get a conneciton at all... idk theres an idea though...

10x for the answer kNoc.

i assume that port forwarding should fix the problem?
if so, what port should i forward?

27910 and possibly 27900

Also you may want to make sure that your firewall is not blocking paintball2. Although if you can load the serverlist then I am not sure what is going on.

If your lost connection still lets people kill you - that's either not a connection problem, or something is seriously screwed.

Oh I have the same problem too, but only on some servers. For me, I think it's a connection problem here though. Packet shaper maybe, for me. It started happening after winter break.

See netgraph:

I can move for the first 1-2 seconds easily too. Players are no longer shown moving on the screen after the first two seconds, but their ID shows up if they happen to run in front of my crosshair. I can get killed too. If I hold down +attack/+forward, then I may move an inch or shoot eventually after 5 seconds, but it will stop after one inch/shot or so. I still receive chat messages, and my chat messages show up after a few seconds.

For servers that do work, when I get near a battle (i.e. lots of people shooting or people around me), I spike every 500ms.

port forwarding didn't solve the problem. still, i got stuck in place, and i can even watch other players move and shoot and icon "disconnected" appears. firewall is disabled.

kNoC,
there is a way to control connection in paintballs? cant find it. only thin i could do is set connection settings to 33.6K modem, but still i freeze after few seconds..
