New Map: SIPRO
« on: January 02, 2009, 02:10:54 PM »
Hi...i was bored so i made realy realy small deathmatch map named SIPRO - Silent Prostors. This map is funny with no granades, only smokes  and it's made for 2-6 players... It is sets in dark with small lights and there are "low" guns. Move crouch and listen for mistake of Enemy and find and destroy him. There's one special bunker with sliding doors and defence blocks.  ;)

It's funny with bots too. So here is the link:

Could you upload it somewhere else as well? I cannot download from that site, it times out.

The map is small as you said, maybe too small. You can barely move there. Some barrels tops are scaled wrong and when i play the map, it lags strangely. Other maps play well. And finally the overall of the map is kind of messy. It's like a labyrinhth

I've attached a demo of some things you might want to revise.  It looks like the map has a leak in it.  When you fix that, I'll put it up on the beta server for testing.  You'll want to avoid the dynamic (flickering) lights, as those can cause a huge performance hit on some video cards.  Even on my machine, it was only running at like 50-60fps.

What exactly is the nature of this slowdown? Is it something that could be potentially fixed (and so added to the feature vote in the meantime)?

I don't experience the slowdown personally, I'd like to know how widespread this issue is.

Dynamic lights mean the lightmap texture has to be removed from graphics memory, modified, and re-uploaded.  Some cards don't have very much bandwidth for this, so it can be excruciatingly slow.  A map filled with dynamic lights can bring these cards to their knees.
