Paintball2 compatable PC card slot graphics cards!
« on: February 06, 2009, 03:21:30 PM »
My main computer is getting sluggish and I'm not really looking to keep it for much longer. I have a Toshiba L30-10X with... well I'm not sure what graphics card but it has a PC card slot (which is empty). Currently I can't play paintball2 because I have the wrong graphics card (I've tried all the available drivers for it). All I want is the cheapest graphics card possible (for the UK) that will play paintball2 at an (ok) standard! Oh and it's vista home basic. Consider this a mission!

PC card? Are you referring to a PCI card (about the size of a dvd case, but thicker) or a PCMCIA card for laptops? If it's the latter, you're out of luck.

The credit card sized card in the side of the laptop... i expect I'm out of luck. I heard that you can get graphics cards in the form of PC cards.

updating the video card on a laptop isnt going to be easy, if at all possible. were you once able to play and can't now for some reason? i cant think of many computers, outside of a electronics recycling facility, that couldnt handle this game.

Not always.  Either way, it's a pain to upgrade laptops in general.

If it's the latter, you're out of luck.

Had a look through Toshiba's website - here are the driver links I found:

http://support1.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-files2/0/display-20080318145729.zip
That's provided you're on Vista 32-bit.

Those are for XP.

Seeing as it says they're from ATi, you might try the ATi site.

Sorry if you've already tried these ones.

Yea, I figured.  Any good card would need some form of cooling.

so hot = good. awesome. my card is sooogud its starts to putter and stall with a fine layer of dust. must be one meddling kickass card.

on the flip side, i locknet and sync @75/s. for all you who insist on 1000fps constantly.

I don't know why some games leave vsync off by default. All you get for a turning it off is the screen looking horrible if there is any movement going on (stuff gets cut up).

Not trying to make fun of you at all, but you sound like a darn czekian. I can't understand that post for anything. Think you might have missed a few words, made up a few more, and randomized the rest.

What I think you're saying is that the aliasing is nearly negated with syncing, and hence looks a lot better. After the hurdle of "smooth motion" (really was a hurdle to hit when I last played computer games ~Doom II), ~30fps (or ~60 if you've got a sharp eye), the next factor to overcome is the aliasing. Really nasty looking artifacts that look like flashes on the screen. Kinda sad and shocking how many people (pretty much everyone) I've talked to that play this and have no idea what the locking commands do (just saying how dumb it is limit fps), and think that Vsync is equatable to the devil. Anything that deviates from that singular purpose of monster framerates is heresy.

They're should be a tutorial on this.....

erm, can we get back slightly on topic *cough cough

Is there any form of graphics card that will fit into my PC card slot on my laptop to let me play paintball?

In a nutshell?  No.

Nothing you can add on will give you the performance (near) that of a desktop pc graphics card.
