Paintball2 Wiki?
« on: February 11, 2005, 01:29:02 PM »
I'm thinking of setting up some kind of wiki for paintball2 documentation and such.  What do you think?

A wiki, for those too lazy to look it up, is basically a web site editable by anyone.  It's a lot like a message board and allows the use of simple codes so you don't have to know HTML, but it provides much more freedom as well as gives more structure to things.   loial21, for example, could add a page, then somebody else could come along and correct all of his grammatical errors. ;)

Check out the Wikipedia for a good example.

Well, I've started working on it.  It's going to be pretty slick!  I decided to code it from scratch because getting an existing wiki to do what I want would probably be more work than just doing it all myself, hehe.  The automatic linking works.  The page display is just about done.  I just need to do the editing and adding of content.

Not bad for a day's work.  Have fun.  Try not to break it too much. ;)

Well, the move over to the new sever broke the wiki I was working on.  I haven't figured out how to access the files yet to fix it, but the web interface for the new server had some "easy install" apps.  DokuWiki was on there, so I just installed it.  I don't know much about it, but I'm sure it's a lot more robust than my "one day wiki" :)

Heh. And the last post is talking about finishing build 14...
In my opinion, a new thread would be better for this. Just because then we wouldn't have to scroll through all the posts that don't really matter anymore.
