xMAPCOM Info (Test)
« on: July 12, 2009, 03:24:04 PM »
We are planning on having 7 seasons a year. Not every season is guaranteed to have a competition.

Fall Season: September and October
Fall/Winter Season: November and December
Winter Season: January and February
Winter/Spring Season: March and April
Spring Season: May
Spring/Summer Season: June
Summer Season: July and August

The year begins with the Fall Season and ends with the Summer Season.
The Spring and Spring/Summer Seasons are made shorter because for most students, it is exam time.

1. You'll forget about this long before september 12th.

2. Are you going to be one of the judges? Because I hear a lot of people saying your maps suck. How will the judges be picked? e-friends only?

3. I like the idea of a mapping contest.

does the entire map have to be underground or can parts of it be?

-i don't think that any people just voltunteering should be chosen as judges. more people that have mapping experience, good at dp (to see gameplay) or not retards XD

-prizes?

-to make this work, i'd suggest using the GGC mapping contests as a guide on how to run this one :)

The whole map doesn't have to be underground, just a majority of it

9. If you are going to be in this or want to help judge write your name and if you are going to map or judge, "you can do both but cant judge your own map"

Good job not waiting for us to discuss this. You're overlooking one MASSIVE point. Not just a big point, a MASSIVE one, almost as big as Knack's banhammer.

What if a contestant purposely rates his competitor's map lower?

For one thing, you don't think things through. No wonder Mewa is flaming us for being unorganized.

Good point new rule, Contestants cannot judge.

A "Professional" rating combined with a "Public" rating.
4 judges seperately rate one criteria of the map and give it a rating out of 10.
Appearance - judged by non-mapper
Gameplay - judged by non-mapper (we might make this criteria judged by an active match clan)
Creativity - judged by a mapper (usually, it's the mappers that have problems coming up with ideas for a good map)
Technique - judged by a mapper (a non-mapper wouldn't know what to look for)
A public voting thread is also created, giving other people a chance to rate all 4 criterias (to keep things balanced).

We realize that the public voting system is flawed, but until we can come up with a better system, we will be using this one.

And me personally, i am not judging

This won't work. The 4 judges should judge everything, then combine their scores for each category for an average category score. If your ruling was used, whats to say the gameplay judge likes box maps or something, and hates multipath maps? Then it would ruin the gameplay score.

Good point. So to make that system workable, have 2 mappers and 2 non-mappers judge everything and give an average score.
