Can't consistently jump to the newest post in a thread

After I have viewed all the new posts, leave, then come back to view further new posts, when I click on a thread with new posts, it puts me atthe top of the first post vs the latest new post.

But when I go to a new post via an email announcement, I go to the correct new post.

Any ideas?

It's the new SMF version.  I need to make some changes to the theme to make it compatible.
