Build 0.31 - Linux constant crashes - 0.30 was fine - gdb output
« on: December 30, 2010, 12:55:49 PM »
Hi

After happily playing on 0.30 for ages with no issues the latest build is random (frequent) crashing ....

I get this error after playing for a while :-  (on what seems all servers)

On Archlinux64:-

-----------------------------------
Received signal 11, exiting...
X Error of failed request:  BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)
Major opcode of failed request:  2 (X_ChangeWindowAttributes)
Resource id in failed request:  0x1800002
Serial number of failed request:  89776
Current serial number in output stream:  89777
X Error of failed request:  GLXBadContext
Major opcode of failed request:  136 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request:  4 (X_GLXDestroyContext)
Serial number of failed request:  89777
Current serial number in output stream:  89777
-----------------------------------

On Ubuntu 10.10 x86 I get

------------------------------
Received signal 11, exiting...
paintball2: ../../src/xcb_io.c:183: process_responses: Assertion `!(req && current_request && !(((long) (req->sequence) - (long) (current_request)) <= 0))' failed.
Received signal 6, exiting...
X Error of failed request:  BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)

Resource id in failed request:  0x3a00002
Serial number of failed request:  15929
Current serial number in output stream:  15933
------------------------------

I have tried to gdb it but X completely locks when it crashes using gdb but I did get this (in Ubuntu 10.10)
(i have edited useless info from this)

as mentioned last version (0.30)  NEVER crashed on same OS's...

No h/w, firewall, etc changes,-  just the version of paintball

If I run 0.30 its fine.

Any ideas / any info I can provide to fix this issue ?

I have used the full version on both OS's.

It is not related to using SDL for sound as I use oss in Arch (ubuntu 10.10 has removed OSS completely ...  Alsa just doesn't work correctly unfortunately)

I think I have an idea.  What kind of screen configuration do you have? (Resolution, more than one monitor?)  Do you play in windowed or full screen mode?

It might be a while before I can fix this, so you'll probably have to roll back to build 30 for now.

Hey Jitspoe.

I usually use full screen @ 1600X1200 on a pretty old (dinosaur) single CTR monitor (analogue connection) , however when I first saw the error I did try windowed mode and same thing occurred.

No problem rolling back to 0.30  (best version in Linux so far).

To slightly complicate things I am getting a new monitor within the next week (Xmas money put to good use)  - I will try playing 0.31 again when Amazon deliver it.. and report back if any different.

I can't believe that  Ubuntu 10.10 have actually removed all the kernel modules for oss (yes its old but lots of apps still use it..)

Thanks for all the work you have put in to this game, I am not playing as much as I used to (things like work/life/girlfriend disturbing me) but the amount of hours I have spent  playing is getting close to the amount I have spent playing civilization.

Happy new year !!

I think I've fixed the problem, so try build 32 when it comes out (possibly within the next month).
