Where the servers go?
« on: June 12, 2006, 07:42:43 PM »
I just noticed that the server amount was decreased by about 25%.  Others have noticed the same thing.  Where did all the servers go?

Crashing from Mr. Stupid's Skin Hack? I'm not sure about the others, but my server has inexplicably just, 'stopped.' The process is still running and all, but it no longer takes any connections. Maybe it's just me, but something weird is going on.

I have noticed that my local ip has been changing every day now.  When I first started the server it just stayed the same now the last 3 digits change every day.  Then I have to change the ip that I have the port open to.  That solves the problem.

If you use dialup your IP changes every time you connect. For cable, sometimes your IP changes when you reboot your router, or sometimes your ISP simply assigns you a new IP at their leisure.

he said his LOCAL ip, hitman, go into your router and look for a spot near the DHCP where you can enable a single static ip using a MAC address, on your server if its windows type "ipconfig /all", if its lunix then type "ifconfig", and then copy the MAC address, should look something like this: 00:00:00:00:00:00, then in your router give it the an ip like 192.168.1.100, then from now on only that computer will be 192.168.1.100, and it will always be that ip, and don't tell the computer to use static ip, it will still work with DHCP, everytime you do "ipconfig /release" "ipconfig/renew", or in lunix dhclient eth0, it will get 192.168.1.100, this is how I have my stuff setup so that my network is still on DHCP, just my computers that host stuff always have the same ip.

It might look something like this:

This is a blessing. Hopefully 75% of the server can disappear. So sick of browsing through 30 server for the 100 people that regularly play this game.
