DP screen stays grey, looks frozen
« on: April 03, 2006, 08:46:03 AM »
Hi,

my system:

WIN 98, Elsa Erazor III, ...

Today I had actualisied my drivers: problems...

Now I have the old status, but I've several problems with DP2. The screen stays grey, I think and the system is frozen.

I think it could be a driver-problem. I've installed today Direct X6.0, should I change the version. Can anybody help me???

I don't think DirectX affects pb2 at all, you just need to make sure your video card is compatable with OpenGL and you've installed the latest drivers.

Merged.  You might want to try removing the old drivers first.  I'm not sure how bad Win98 is about that kind of thing.  I'm guessing it's pretty bad, since it's bad about everything else.

I think all you need is directx 5.  Maybe even lower.

You don't need OpenGl 2. And DirectX isn't hard to google...

Seriously, it took me 10 seconds.

You don't need the latest DirectX, he said 5 would be fine because your video card is probably old and only supports the features of DirectX 5, some current video cards still run at DirectX 7, you might want to lookup your video card/onboard chipset for specifics on its suport.

I was trying the Nvidia, but the program recognised that I have no Nvidia-card... I try now DirectX5. The game was already runnig on my system, but after a new installation it stays grey (I had installed everything new ; - )

I was now installing Direct X 5 and the newest drivers for my card, but the game doesn't run. It was running one day on this system, so I think, there's acutally something missing...

At the moment I get the following Error:

"Error during initialization.
Make sure you have an OpenGL capable video card and that the latest drivers are installed" Ok

My video card ist OpenGL capable. But OpenGL I've not installed.

You should look into getting Windows 2k, about $30 some places and runs real nice, more like XP than 98, and it has low system requirements, barely hogs any ram or cpu.

OpenGL is always installed for me WITH the video drivers, so you might wanna look into support for you video card, can you go into System Info er whatever and find out what your video card is?
