Sneak Peek at BSP .95a
« on: July 26, 2006, 12:57:14 AM »
Sort is having me do some testing on BSP .95a before releasing it.  I've found a few bugs, but it's looking very promising.  Here's a sneak peek:

Wow that looks really good. Looks easier than the first bsp.

Umm... it looks almost exactly the same, you just have colored groups on. And the 3d window has some fog in the distance.

that looks really nice, are those colored brushes telling the team they are from?
and if they are, does that have anything to do with the .loc files?

Should make a "click and place" map making program. Make things easier. ;)

That would require weather systems, which aren't in the game yet. And from the list of things on the 'requests for build 17' list, (assuming that carries over to 18 and so on) it looks like it won't be in for a long time.

Colored groupings have always been there.  It doesn't have anything to do with locations, but instead makes it so you can show/hide different parts of the map so they don't get in the way and whatnot.

There are a lot of changes since .93, some of the most notable ones are:
- Mouse look in the 3d view.
- Right click scrolls around the 2D views instead of making discrete movements.
- Keyboard customization.  You can bind different keys to things instead of being stuck with the defaults.
- Vastly improved 3d rendering (much faster, supports things like fog and transparent brushes).
- Customizable colors (notice the grid color isn't bright blue and white anymore).
- Scroll wheel can be used to zoom in and out and change the grid size.
- More stable (doesn't crash as much).

Hiding groups on large maps greatly improves BSP's performance because it won't have to render the entire map at once.

Looks really good, although I think I will stick with Radiant for now...
