What does the s in 2s actually stand for? :D
Please no answers like "It means 2v2"...I wanna know where the s comes from.

My guess is it comes form the word "twos". As to why would you call a match "twos" is kind of beyond what I can explain in terms of grammar, just a feeling that it would be generally understood and could probably be used as a substitution to 2v2.

As prozajik said it stand for a substitute. And the meaning of the s is  "twos " which means: what ever is wrote before the s 'by two' (x2) , atleast thats what i always thought.

Yeah, Europeans, it isn't pronounced '2 ess' its pronounced 'twos'. It means the same as it does in sports, e.g. Rugby Sevens (7v7 rugby). Could also be thought of as an abreviation to 'doubles'.

I wouldn't call it slang, just contraction, shortening of words.
