I'd make the top smaller and rotate the texture to go along the length of the board.  It looks like it's about 3/4 of a foot thick right now, when most desks have tops that are 1-2 inches thick.

Although it seems you aren't going for the giant room and tiny player affect, here's some inspiration for you: http://padworld.myexp.de/index_e.php?page=maps/maps.html
Especially the "HarmsHütte by Harmonieman"
I've always liked Quake maps of realistic environments, stick with your idea, you're onto something good.

i have modled a few more things and I'll show you when i get home (I'm at school LOL) after i get some more stuff modled I'd like to put a file up some where so you guys could down load the brushes b/c I've got quit a few now. Honestly i am not the best mapper i can't ever seem to lay it out right but i am good at making my models, but then again i am a n00b still and need some more practice!

The wall behind the desk is a little bit smaller (height) than the one next to desk. Oh, and to make it perfect (clearly you are trying have every little detail good) you should make a new texture, where the bricks are smaller.

good luck.

Or he could just scale the texture in the map editor.
