UT2k3 installation (linux)
« on: November 06, 2006, 12:16:00 PM »
Hello.
I recently bought Unreal Tournament 2003 in a bargain bin for around a fiver (GBP rUl3zz, USD SuX0R5) on my local highstreet. It said it would install on Windows, Mac or Linux, all from those same 3 cds. After installing on my windows computer, i tried to install it on my Linux box, (dpball servers coming soon  ;) ) inserted the CD into my PC, mounted it, and double clicked Linux_installer.sh . Nothing happened.

I am a complete Linux newbie running Fedora6 with GNOME.

Any help? (I'm hoping tinman is around here somewhere)

This should help: http://www.linux-gamers.net/modules/wiwimod/index.php?page=HOWTO+UT2003
Since you're new to Linux, I'd recommend switching to Ubuntu if you aren't too cozy in Fedora Core, Ubuntu seems to be the most user friendly, and you can always get loads of help on the community forums.

If you have any problems with that, as the CD's installer might be out of date or something, you can get a more current one here: http://liflg.org/?catid=6&gameid=70
.run files are the same as .sh files, they are shell scripts, you run them from a terminal by "cd"ing to the directory that they are in (e.g. "cd ~/Desktop/") and then running them with "sh xxx.run", or if you want to install as root, change to root by tying "su", I'm not sure if FC6 has "sudo", but if it does (most likely), then you can run the installer as root with "sudo sh xxx.run".

Good luck!

OK, by the time you had replied, i had got quite far. I had run the installer, fixed the "tail +266" issue with fedora, and edited the checksums so they matched. Then i ran it and it said
Code: [Select]
Copying to a temporary location...
Verifying archive integrity... All good.
Uncompressing Unreal Tournament 2003 for GNU/Linux 2107
/tmp/makeself3350: line 251: ./setup.sh: No such file or directory
The program returned an error code (127)

Any ideas?
Its a Loki installer.
There's no setup.sh on the CD either.

If it's not the latest, then you should get that here: http://liflg.org/?catid=6&gameid=70
If it is, then asking on the Loki forums or on IRC is always the quickest way to a fix:

irc.freenode.net #liflg

The "latest version" you keep offering me is the installer for the update, not the updated installer.
Oh, and thanks.
