Make single player on server able to interact?
« on: January 10, 2005, 07:46:43 PM »
I think one of the problems with empty pball servers is you can't do ANYTHING until another player joins.  I was thinking of creating kind of a "limbo" state where someone who connects to an empty server could "play", but no points would be scored, or the score would simply reset when another player joined.  Thoughts?

Play as in be able to walk around the level, pick up items, and shoot.

I like bots more. But they shouoldn't show up in the player count by the server.

Bots have never shown up on the server player count.

I suppose I could put in an option to throw in a bot or two until other players join.  That would probably be easier since I wouldn't really have to change anything, but I wouldn't be able to reset the score when someone joins... probably doesn't matter that much.

Nope.  The player count is done in the engine.  The bots are done in the game dll.

oh come on, guys!
try starting a game with Deathmatch mode, and you will be able to run around and pick up stuff and shoot etc, i think this will as well work on a public server (when you dont create your own game), if you can change the map :)

No changing map. I'm pretty sure that would be a bad idea.
