Linux?
« on: August 19, 2007, 10:53:37 PM »
Ok so I got a Dell laptop here and there is really nothing on it anymore and I don't use it at all now. I was going to reformat the HD and put xp back on it, but I though i might as well try linux for fun. Now i know nothing about linux and how to install it, so what is the best linux operating system to install for free, or would torrents work? And a walkthrough on how to install would be awsome.

...all linux distros are free. They have to be. Torrent's aren't needed.
Before you commit to one/install it, get a LiveCD of the distro to make sure it works with your laptop.

www.linspire.com
www.mandriva.com

:p

But you should probably start with Ubuntu/Kubuntu or Fedora if you plan on the servery side of things.

Get Ubuntu here

The installer will correctly format and partition your hard drive for you.

If you're looking for something fun, linux isn't the answer. :)
