False Ping readings?
« on: September 26, 2007, 03:59:28 PM »
Hey lately I've been having false ping reading under my join game menu it will say I have like 200 ping I'll go to the server and there it say that I only really have like 90.
Just incase this comes up all I've done is download Viciouz's orange menu since it started happening but I don't think that would affect it unless there is a corrupt file any idea what's wrong?

The high ping is probably caused by communicating with multiple servers at once.  If you use the standalone browser, you can click on a single server and it will send a new request and give you a more accurate ping.

That will work for now but it would be good to have that fixed though.

Jits, is there a way to ping a single server from ingame, instead of the whole server list? If so I could modify the join game menu.

I want to say there's a console command for it, but I don't remember offhand.  I could probably add one if there isn't.

Run a tracrt and see why you are getting this.

My self I am being routed to level3com everytime i ping GT servers. The routes usually shows a time out.

How is the calculation done on the browser side?

The browser ping is how long it takes between sending out a request for the server info and actually getting it.

I think we should switch to the pidgin-pinging method.

umm pigning a server is usually done via udp sockets theres a special rfc for dp "ÿÿÿÿ" when the server gets this command it relays the server info back to you. and depending on how long it takes for the server to send you this info will give you your ping(milliseconds) :)
