No I do not think so, I have already been mapping it for a day and have gotten a portion done, i still have A LOT of work to do. But over 2 weeks I should come up with something either good for matching or good for the contest.

Interesting, you've already started the actual in-BSP mapping phase?

Yeah, I am the lazy designer who doesn't draw up a map. I use bsp as my blue-prints and come up with an idea that way.
Then I try and think what would be good for the game play or looks, then I move/change things around/add things and see what I get. I have tried drawing out my maps and mapping them that way, but I do not like what I come up with because when I map it, it doesn't look like what I wanted it to on paper.

Designing should take 3-5 months!! Followed by 6-8 months of development and 2-3 months of beta-testing :P

detail planning takes 6months up to few years, but you need the citys permission, and the wheels of bureaucracy are rolling too slow, so that takes a few months aswell. Then you need to re design your work, because the construction cost has raised significantly and the current project is a no-go.

Right. 2 Weeks isn't enough for a good map :( And a good map isnt the aim of that contest?

Since everyone starts off with nothing but the theme and everyone has 2 weeks time, it's quite fair ;)
In our eyes, it's possible to create something good looking within 2 weeks.  If you made up something really original, you can release some more betas after the contest, which of  course won't be judged.

I think its possible inside 2 weeks, you just need good planning, realistic scope, good practice and decent starting inspiration. I sketched ours out on paper yesterday and have a portion layed out in BSP already.

I think we should have more than one judge for each section, though. Not that I don't have faith in those you've picked, but it is literally impossible to be impartial (or infact representative) if there aren't multiple opinions, especially on pretty subjective things like 'aesthetics' and 'gameplay'. Perhaps the commitee?

Bitmate, with all due respect fairness wasn't want some of us newbs were griping about, it was whether or not something of good quality could be made, I actually like the 2 week deadline, it helps even the curve as well as makes this more of a speed-mapping contest.

That sounds cool.  Though, don't give the others the opportunity to steal your ideas ;)

is a concert hall strictly Urban/Industrial? It was my understanding that Urban meant inner-city rough streets, like project housing and derelict buildings, etc... as that can mesh with Industrial dirty buildings, etc...

I suppose a concert hall would be ok if it was the hall and the outlying buildings... on its own it really isn't urban or industrial... if it were under construction, yeah.
