New Gamemode: Team Deathmatch

I would like to propose the idea of Team Deathmatch, or TDM, to Digital Paintball.  I have found this mode of play in other games to be very fun, and I think DP would be the same.

Isn't TDM like normal 2-teams on ultra speed servers?

Its like the Elim gamemode, only you revive within several seconds.  Also, it would be played on maps like Armageddon, not maps like propaint1.

Yes, but you can't currently choose to have this setting on your server.  I think it would be fun to have maps specifically designed for TDM.

I really don't see why you can't just play elim and set the elimination time to like 3secs.

Because you can still eliminate an entire team and get a point for 'ending' the round.  Also, TDM has a lot of promise to have good teamwork/strategy.  Controlling the best weapons and sniper spots, etc.

And set debug1 to 1. Hacky for sure, and lacking a good scoring system, but it will provide a stopgap. I would have a look at the gamecode but it's not in the source package.

how would the team DM scoring works? team that gets the most kills? Because if so, i would definitely prefer to play that way then the version the server sometime runs... it's called slayer or something? you only get points for killing the entire team and if it's speed server... it went into OT for like 2 hours...

You guys are really missing the point.  Each team's score is based on the number of combined kills on a DM map, not some ctf or noflags speed server crap.

So a yes maybe to the TDM gamemode?  I'm sure it wouldn't require too too much coding, since it revolves around much of the 'elim' style of play.

What's wrong with elim as it is? Maps designed for elim would be great, I agree. But I don't see why we should put in a whole new gametype.

It could be a fun mode.  I think the way I'd implement it is your team gets 1 point for a kill and loses 1 point for a death (but can't go below 0).  That would make for some interesting tug-of-war scoring (and probably be most compatible with the default fraglimit setting of 50).  One team may be at like 49 points, but then the other starts making a come-back and knocks them back to 45 or so.  If you want this feature, go vote for it.

Jitspoe:  You're tug o' war idea would be great for matching/serious team play, however in pub, I could see it being a problem if there's a few newbies on a server, and everyone tries to switch off their team.

Perhaps create a Team Deathmatch Classic mode which would be a typical TDM?

There's a few problems I have with TDM in other games, I love that this game doesn't have to fall in-line with everyother FPS out there, so maybe we can over come these:
- Respawn times are often set too long.  This is a server setting, so we'll have to wait until this is implemented to see how it works.
- In addition to the point above, when an entire team is eliminated, the other team usually groups up in there base and just wastes them as they spawn.  With tug of war, a single paint grenade could result in a ten point swing.
- Without team shuffling and auto-balancing, gameplay can become monotonous, as you watch the same few players carry a team to victory over and over.


Please note that I like the tug of war idea, I'd just like to see Classic TDM.

y00tz:  Normal CTF maps would not be used for this setting, instead already created DM maps, or new ones would be used.  Obviously if a CTF map was used with this setting, havoc would ensue.
