New Map - Petra
« on: November 23, 2007, 05:06:35 PM »
Here is a map I was working on before the mapping contest.  It's not mirrored so one side may have an advantage... that's what beta testing is for. :)
The map uses dsm walls and gates for less people. Let me know how it plays.
Supports ctf and dm.

Oo looks very pretty, I _really_ need to release a patch to make some of these bricks scaled into normal proportions.

A true tour de force, the architecture is incredible.

What more can I say?!

wow, this is fantastic. I love your architecture so much, it looks fantastic and with such low r_speeds! Having such extremely asymmetrical bases/layout might be a bit controversial, but I love it.

some small texture alignment issues, but otherwise this blew my face off.

nice one.

Beutiful just one thing I noticed the edge of the wood rim thing high blue base is to far out (you can stand on it in some but not others).

pretty sweet, only yeah one team will more than likely have some advantage.

Also check your spawn points, I was just playin in my own server with a bot and we spawned in the same room on opposite teams.

Apoc: I think I got it fixed... darn angles
Flame: You're right, several weren't set correctly... silly me
yootz: This was the first map I used the ctcp pak on, really liked the additional textures.

I hadn't even looked at this map for almost a month.

texture selection and architecture looks very nice, haven't gotten to play it yet. But I'm glad there are such nice looking maps in the works, much better than what we had 2-3 years ago.

few questions remain:
- why "petra"?
- could you please include the ctp1 textures in your package? I seem to still be missing a few :)

Petra was a temporary name, it's the name of a company that sells electronic parts. I was trying to think of a name and the Petra catalog was sitting on there.  I meant to change it but after checking the definition, it didn't seem to be offensive or anything so I just left it. Petra is an ancient city, doesn't exactly fit, but it's ok. Does Petra mean something that I don't know about?
I'll package the textures used next time. But they can be found in the ctp1 thread: http://dplogin.com/forums/index.php?topic=6442.0

yeah, I know the city, but saw that the map wasn't related (the architecture), so I had to ask :)

ctp1 included will especially help newbies, when the map is on a public server (for example the EV1 beta server). thank you :)

Put it up on the beta server.  Looks interesting.  Don't really have time to look it over in depth right now, but the main thing that bugs me is the scale and mixture of bricks - primarily in the red base.  Some of them just don't seem to go together very well, like the pink brick and crumbly old brick.  I'm not sure if you scaled the textures up or if the CTP bricks are just large.

You can do that to any teleporter, and elevator. If you crouch onto/into them, they don't work till you stand up.

Petra means Rock.

Edit: like stone, not Rolling Petras or anything like that.
