External HDD Help!!!
« on: November 25, 2007, 11:10:28 AM »
So I decided to reformat and I backed the stuff I needed to keep up to my hard drive. I got most of it off but all of my paintball maps and configs are still on there, along with around 200 GB of movies and another 100 of TV shows.

Now for the problem. The HD turns on spins up and then spins down and the light blinks and then it goes off. I'm pretty sure its the power cord from the wall to the HD but I'm not positive. If anybody has any other ideas on what it could be I'd love to know them because I really don't want to lose all that I have.

Also if you know how to take apart a Western Digital My Book Case tell me because I'm about 95% sure I can fix it if I get the case off.

Do you know what type of hdd it is?

Is it sata or ide?

Do you have sata conenctors in your pc?  If so, you could remove the hdd from teh external encloser and isntall it in your pc case and see if it recovers.

All I know is that it is a Western Digital 500 GB.
And if I could remove the case then I planned on plugging it in to my desktop.
