Seriously, CSS is where it's at.  It's a skill (apparently from what sk89q has said, I do it wrong), but CSS can be a nightmare when dealing with cross-browser functionality (at least if you're like me - one of the 2% of developers who factor in IE5/5.5)

@y00tz: Err, not that you do it wrong per se, but that you're trying to deal with the cross-browserness the wrong way. The recommended way that has a far higher success rate is with CSS hacks. Browsers like to lie about themselves for compatibility sakes.

Although I do do it the more accurate way, I do only target a very limited market: IE6, IE7, the latest version of Opera, Firefox (Gecko and related), Safari, and maybe mobile IE and mobile Opera. Although, usually targeting for IE6 gets most of IE5.5.

Yeah, I bet I am.  I was taught CSS through sort of an internship/mentorship when I was younger, and a lot of bad habits rubbed off.

Yeah, but too bad Acid2 doesn't show how compliant IE8 really is. IE8 is also a while away, and adoption of it is even farther away *sigh*

I've always wanted to buy Transcending CSS: The Fine Art of Web Design, but haven't had the money and seen it at the bookstore at the same time.  I've flipped through it probably half a dozen times when I couldn't afford it, and recommended it to PureBlood who picked it up.  It goes through a lot of design theory with plenty of visuals.

I've been playing around with HAML, which is geared towards Ruby on Rails, but applicable outside of RoR if people are willing to port it.  It's developed by a guy here in Toronto, which is pretty cool as well.  The reason why I brought it up, was because of SASS, which is a byproduct of HAML.  I can really see SASS being the future of CSS.  I know HAML has been ported over to PHP (4 last time I checked), but I'm not too sure on SASS.  Either way, it's worth checking out.
