New Server List
« on: December 27, 2007, 09:42:11 AM »
I read from another forum topic that DP is downloaded at least 1000 times everyday. But yet, the public servers only contain a handful of people. I think that one of those factors that led to people opening paintball 2, and deleting it is the slightly non user - friendly login page, and the other pages which come after that. Seriously, a couple of my friends got lost after login in. So, I came up with a suggestion and an illustration for a new Server List. This page would come right after the login page.

The image looks horrible after resizing so if you want to view the full image, you can view it here  http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg271/egrahics/pbor1.jpg

I really like the "Create Server" Idea. I think that could be great.

well, this idea is good, but most of everything on your menu page is already on other pages just spread out.  Oli887, you can already "create a server" with the "new game" button.  It is essentially a "create server" button.  ;)

Didn't even notice that! Its been so long since I ever gazed upon the in game server list I couldnt tell the difference. Nice start but the map name definately needs to be in there :P

Is this something Z can do with his menus, or does it require jits input?

Actually, everything on this menu idea is on some other menu in game, so yes it is possible that Zorch could in fact make this.  The only problem would be that I remember someone was having trouble resizing the server list before, and that problem may have been in the source, I can't remember.

It's a start.  In addition to the map name, I'd like to see a simple icon to indicate whether or not the server requires a password.

If were on the subject of icons, there should also be one for whether global login is required or not.

If the server name has the word "noob" in it, probably not ;D jk

The icon for PW servers could be a lock
The icon for GLS could be a key

along with map names, I still wish we can organize the servers by map or players, etc. just like in the server browser, I guess I'm stuck with that searching for servers   :P

We need to add a note to the 'find servers' page that there is, in fact, a much more pretty external server browser.

lesse, i think i know another thing that might drive them away, MAYBE THE FACT THE EVERY TIME THEY PLAY THEY PLAY AGAINST PROS?! no matter where i am, i get pwned no matter dang what, we need a newbie/notalent server, SO MAYBE THIS GAME WONT CAUSE MORE STRESS THEN MY DANG GRANDMA T.T, and thats pretty hard to do, seriously, im squeezing an empty small co2 canister here >:/

agreed, but the newbie might not know what the icons mean

There are already 2 newbie servers run by lekky. I don't know how well they work, but the two times I have been on them to see how they play, the people on there were indeed newbies.

Ok, this is what I came up with.  I can't do anything with the actual list, btw.

Thoughts?

Oh, and the red is just a theme.

* webhead likes.
"new list" and "refresh list" are much more meaningful than "update" and "refresh".

edit: whoa! "/ me" works!! (without the space)

Oh, btw, this menu replaces the menu with multiplayer setup, join server, create server, and play demo.  I'll move "play demo" to the main menu, if there are no objections.
