Feedback: New Sounds
« on: December 31, 2007, 12:47:26 AM »
I guess this'd be a nice thing to have. If you don't have the new sounds, you can get them through the full build20 install, or if someone is nice enough to post their sound folder here, you can grab that as well and stick in in /pball.

Anyway, for me the new sounds don't seem to fit with the old ones. That's not entirely bad, so long as eventually all of the guns' sounds are updated. Specifically, the new sounds sound much 'harder' than the old ones, and not just because they're higher-quality. I'm not entirely sure what that means.
The new splat sounds are a bit high-pitched for my tastes, but that's just me.
Aaaand all of the new gun sounds seem to be about %50 too loud, compared directly to the other guns' sounds.

I guess I will. Only the guns and splat folder, since (I think) that's all that changed.

Yeah, they are a bit "harder" since the recordings include higher frequencies/detail.  The old ones were pretty muffled due to the low quality recordings and 8 bit 11khz format (I think that's what was used).  If you open them in a sound editor, you can see the wave is blocky.  New sounds for the rest of the guns will be implemented soon.  I've already recorded an autococker and should have access to a Spyder soon.

i like em.

nightryder: i downloaded a sounds pack to use with b19... but somehow it looks like all i got were the gun sounds. so i'm including my whole splats and guns folders. Extract to %GAMEDIR%\pball\sound\ if you just wanna overwrite what you've got with the old sounds.

i doubt there's a setting, i mean you couldn't go from a normal b20 to a b20 with old sounds just by changing a setting. files have to be changed.

Couldn't you put it in your config to specify which sound files you would want to use? I'm sure someone would have to do a little bit of screwing around to find out...

Thanks. At least you didn't horribly humiliate me like 3/4 of the community would have...

btw, I didn't mean like you could do that now, I was just asking if like someone changed some code if there would be a way to. I'm just saying because I know someone would be like "Stupid noob, how would you just be able to add stuff to your config and expect it to work?"

Or cl, seeing as it has nothing to do with the opengl options :)
