School DP Tournament
« on: January 10, 2008, 05:21:13 PM »
At my high school, we have a technology club, where on Tuesday mornings we pretty much go to the computer lab and screw around. The tech club has pretty much turned into a DP club since Wyld and I introduced the other members to it. We've all been playing together once a week (as well as on our own at home) for 5 weeks now, and a few of us thought it would be a good idea to start a tourney. It will be a 2-player-per-team tourney, with matches being a best of three set. Since time is kind of limited, the games will be 9 minutes each, or to 25 points.

I was wondering if anyone would mind giving me pointers if you've done something like this before. We have 8 teams ready to play. The time we have each Tuesday is about an hour.

Everyone who plays at our school plays by match rules (full 60 respawn, black observer screen, etc..), but they are about as good as pub players. They've only played for a little over a month. We were thinking of doing it more like a league than a tournament (e.g. Week 1 - 1v2, 3v4,5v6,7v8; Week 2 - 1v3, 2v4, 5v7, 6v8) over about 7 or 8 weeks with playoffs at the end. Thoughts?

You could make 2 divisions with 4 teams each.  The top 2 teams of each division face each others.

Results after the 2 divisions played each other:
Division A:Division B:
1. Team 11. Team 5
2. Team 22. Team 6
3. Team 33. Team 7
4. Team 44. Team 8

This means Team 1 faces Team 5 and Team 2 faces Team 6.

The winners of those two matches play each other to determine the winner/2nd place, and the loosers play each other to determine 3rd/4th place.

That's the most simple model.

Um make sure that you are connected to the internet so that people will not hack.

How does this stop them from hacking?

But wouldn't it be detected under all of your user names?  "whitehall high" or whomever, cheated and because of the schools IP, it came up as a hit for everyone who played there...

edit: 2k posts

I don't know... see, this is why I asked. :) None of the people who play at our school are very good, so if they hacked, it would probably be noticable. Plus, I know the ones who do play on a regular basis don't hack. I don't think it'll be much of a problem.

Whitehall High School ftw. Our school would rock any other school out there.

Use the NHL way probably less games though and maybe lower the teams down.

Sorry assumed you would know the NHL way forgot I'm not talking to a Candaian there is two conferences East and West (just split up your teams in two) you could play like 30 games and then top so many in each side go in (in NHL its top 8) then side 1 teams play side 1 teams and side 2 teams play side 2 teams. So I'll just say 8 on each side teams 1v8, 2v7, 3v6, 4v5 the highest ranking in regular season winner of that section plays the lowest so I'll say 1 wins, 7 wins, and 6 and 4 win so next round is 1v7 and 6v4 and then next round final two teams play, then the winners of both sides play (all these match ups are seven games. Winner of that wins.
Hope you could understand that.

I know about the NHL lol... I do live  in America, I just didn't get what you were refering to at first. Thanks, though, I got it.

btw, Even if I still lived in Canada, there are 6 Canadian teams in the NHL (Toronto, Calgary, Ottawa, Edmonton, Vancouver, and Montreal), so I would still know about it. :D

South Eastern Pa, 1 hour outside of Philly, near Quakertown.  Good to know there are people close to home.
