« on: January 18, 2008, 01:30:18 PM »
Some help?

I start my computer up...everything loads but when the desktop loads it just freezes....

Any ideas to what the problem might be?
I can't even run it in safe mode... :-\

Corrupt hard drive sector sounds like to me.

So how exactly are you posting here if you can't get your computer to run? ;D

Corrupt hard drive sector sounds like to me.

Or viruses, or a corrupt file.  Typically, formating and reinstalling is a last resort.

find out what brand your HD is, then go to their website and find some kind of CD bootable, bad sector checking program. I know they have sector checking programs for Seagate and I think Maxtor, and probably all the other major brands...

Same thing with checking for a virus, most anti-virus cd's have bootable virus scans, or find something similar to Ubuntu that is bootable from CD, and do a virus check while in there...  (can't think of the one that has built in virus scan)

Try HDD Regenerator 1.51. I believe it is free and if not you can always torrent it.

Never ever do that.

LOL I've always laughed at their prices, taking advantage of people for simple jobs... They are no better than anyone in here, except for probably the software they use, but we can always help ppl just as much with free alternatives that are just as good :D
