Impact grenades on timed servers

Hey I can't make a new post so could anyone address this:

I was recently playing on a server where the grenades bounced and went off after a specific amount of time (or so I though). The person I was playing against didn't have this limitation. His grenades were exploding on the first bounce, and when I asked how he was doing this he said there is a command to enable it (but he couldn't remember). Is this true? If so, how come only certain people know about it? If not, how was he doing this?

Instead of tossgren, use tossgren impact. (I think)

I'll have to try it, but isn't it wierd how this isn't documented yet it gives such a huge advantage? It's like a built in cheat that only benefits people who know about it. This should really be included in the options menu so everyone knows about it.

I split this thread.  I'm not sure why you are unable to make new topics.

Anyway, the reasoning behind it: This feature was actually added like 2 years ago, after we decided that the player should be able to decide what type of grenade they wanted instead of the server admin.  However, since some server admins were reluctant to upgrade since they didn't like changes (even though they were configurable), I neglected to make this feature known, so as not to give them another reason not to upgrade.

Now, thanks to Picasso, all of the servers are finally updated to support clients choosing grenade types.  For build 16 I'll have the choice for grenade types right in the config menu.

agreed.  That new feature doesnt improve gameplay, it rather adds a projectile weapon to the game.  Rushers now have even less chances to get a few kills, new players who dont know about that feature (or the command) have a big new problem and additionally, the old way you could bounce grenades around corners easily, now you need either 2 binds or a toggle bind if you want to use timed grens, as you will encounter a disadvantage if you keep playing with timed grens only.
Jitspoe, just think about a map like ub_cliffs:  have 2 people camp on the hill near the flag, one of them shooting, the other tossing impact grens all the time.  There is almost no chance to win the round for the attacking team.  I really think you should undo that option, as the server admins had the option to choose before, its not like all people were forced to use timed grens everywhere.  The new option is bad on public servers and even worse on match servers.

In your situation, you would just wait it out. Then, you have a chance of winning. Also, there would only be 2 or 3 grenades up there... not enough to really defend well.

That's a problem with the map, not the grenades.  There should always be multiple paths to the flag.

okay, forget about the example.  but jitspoe, have u ever played on a server with that setting in the past days?  its a pain in the ass... paint grenades now have an enormous power, and half of the team's kills will most likely be by grens and not by guns. thats not fun....  try it, watch it, remove it ;D

The F U stays ........ ok if it helps I am sorry for sayign it.
Jitspoe set those. The only setting I changed was FF on grenades. Killing teamates on purpose is the lamest thing ever. No matter what I set it to the player can toggle it ...or so belive. :)

Boon,
Stop rushing for the most kills :)  or first to flag and slow down . If anything would should be have 2 slots for grenades (frag or smoke)  In this you have made newer players more lethal, which is good for game play.

newer players more lethal?  are you kidding me?  new players get on a server with timed grens set as default and then have a HUGE disadvantage against those who play with impact nades...  if I were new, I'd either ask around quickly why my nades dont explode as fast or just abandon the game forever...

Hah You nimwit!! Loial is correct and actually understandable this time... Gotta love um!  It makes NO DIFFERENCE what the server settings are... On or Off you can bind a key to toss timed grenades or bind a key to toss impact grenades. The commands work in both Q2 and the Paintball2 version on the NEWER serverside client servers.  On the old server builds, like the one we previously had on GRaFFiTi servers, the client side command tossgren IMPACT would NOT work. So a Double F.....U to you Hobo!!!  ;D

And Jitspoe it was more of a pleasure to me than you know for me to finally find out there was a way to go ahead and create updated servers in place of that old crap (Many thanks to Derrek)  Sorry it took so long...

It's also the pleasure of the GRaFFiTi team to be able to provide users with a variety of choices of gameplay on the servers.  Described as follows:

CLaSSiC 1, CLaSSiC 2, & CLaSSiC MaTcH are setup as close to the old school settings we've had for many years as I can get.  Any version of Q2 or the Standalone can connect.

Pub 1 and Match 1 have the gun_inc setting ON and require Paintball2 version 10 or above to connect.

Pub 2 and Match 2 have ALL the new settings turned on and require Paintball2 version 14 or above.

Again ideas and suggestions to graffiti-taggerzATcoxDOTnet

 Mut if you'd read what I'd type instead of worrying about calling me names you'd see that I'm right.  Graffiti servers was not the server he was talking about, people complaining to him about the grenades. I said 98% of the players, I'm "guessing" that about 98% of the players, use the default tossgren command. As an admin, on his server, he could have set the default either way.  I won't wait for your apology mut, I know you're not man enough to step up. I try to be nice and you take a dump in my yard, thanks mut.

The above was your post Hobo. I read your post just as anyone here can read...  Loial was speaking of HIS server as well as all the other newer version servers which was ALL the servers except GRaFFiTi servers until I updated those as well.

I have nothing to apologize for because your too stupid to realize or listen to the fact you have no idea what you are talking about.  AGAIN Nimwit.. It makes NO difference what the server settings are.. you claim that as an ADMIN that he should have the grens set either way on his server when in FACT it makes no differerence how he, the "ADMIN" has set the serverside settings...  The fact that you think that 98% of players only know the default tossgren is irrevelant to this discussion.  The statements you are making are INCORRECT and your WRONG... Maybe you need to learn to read...  Now that you have dumped in my yard would you kindly wipe your ass and pay attention to what is being said..  Thank you!

  Do you see where is says "my server"?  Maybe you do know how to read.  If he said my server as well as all the other newer version servers then I missed it. Besides, Graffiti servers had been updated by the time of my post so your rant is mute and unrealated.  If you had asked 100 people what the bind for throwing a grenade is (100 pball2 players? Is there that many?) how many would know even after this thread?  If it's more or less than I'm wrong... it wasn't meant as an exact percentage, I could have post a disclaimer saying I pulled this number out of the air, but no I simply guessed at what I thought it may be.  I admit I have no evidence to support the percentage.  I'm not sure why you say 98% isn't relevent to the discussion, I believe it was crucial item to the reply, even if not backed by a survey or study.
  What I was trying to tell him... I'll type slow for you... is that he does indeed have some control over the default grenades.  I never said he had total control over the type of grenade... thus I guessed that 98% of the players use the default tossgren as their only way to throw grenades.  My reply told Lioal to take back his FU which lets you know it was a reply to his post.  So if you think I'm incorrect AND wrong then it just shows who you are and what you're made of.

Dear Hobo,

I was refering to all that booger about the frag gren settings on updated servers,which is waht I pay for.
 When I made the orignal post I was asking why not make that a menu option.

According to Jitspoet he said as long as the server is updated, the PLAYER has control of what frag gren they can bind "tossgren"
.
