« on: October 13, 2005, 01:35:50 AM »

im using the build010 and i dont want to use a newone because... dunno i just dont want :p

My question can`t someone turn that "low-build-cant-connect" thing away?

"dunno i just dont want" isn't a very good reason.  You're hurting the development by not testing out the new versions and providing feedback.  If there's something you don't like about the new version, state what it is so we can improve it.  If you have no reason not to upgrade, why are you still using the old version?

Because i like them more than:

build015 o course i tested it i dont like the newmodels
because they r smaller

build013+014 they r not bad i used it at first but i like that oldschool graphics in build010 more... and its just teh feeling :P

and if i think that i use the old build for cheating u can ask nearly every german player that i dont =) (i know u dont say it but maybe u think )

I agree...there are lots of people using builds 8-10 right now and every single one of them "likes the look". Or is it more then that  :)

So you prefer build10 because of the old, pixelated, 8-bit HUD graphics?

Edit: As for the size of the build15 model...

Eh... looks about the same size to me.  The proportions are just more correct and it looks better.

no in game teh size isnt the same...

@taco the "overall" feeling on build010 is better than on 014 and 015 is a very other feeling...
just my opinion...

And jitspoe's opinion is that he isn't going to change the server settings so that someone who likes something worse rather then better can play on his server instead of just updating and giving feedback. So basically he sees you as the player version of Graffiti Paint servers - you won't update. (although Graffiti has been updated recently, like you should) <<none of my opinion =0

* Zelda summarizes the whole thread  :)
btw, wasen't this added to EV1 to keep Ganja from annoying Dyann etc.?

Edit: I found where jits said that:
loial: feel free to ban him from the server. If you set sv_minclientbuild to 14 or something he probably won't play anyway because he uses an old q2-based client. He's already been permbanned from #paintball long ago. Looks like he hasn't matured any.

What build you use is not going to make you any better. The only case where it might would be between quake2 and any of the alphas because q2's models are much bigger and brighter (both the players and the pballs). I don't think there were any significant physical changes between build10-build15 that would change the overall 'feeling' of the game.
I am better when playing q2 than alpha.

Actually, in reply to the "smaller models" excuse, thats a bunch of bullexcrement really. I mean, yeah, the crouch animation IS smaller, but technically its still the same, I mean, sure your missing about a foot off of it, but in reality that foot never mattered in the old version, cause the hitbox is still the same. The old models used to be like this:

*************
*___________*
l                     l
l                     l
l                     l
l____________l

The *'s represent parts of the model that didnt count when a paintball was shot at it, so the paintball would just go through the shouders on up to the head. The build 15 models, They reach the top below the *'s, so therefore you just have better aim cause you know where to aim for.
