Tweak?: Map Pack
« on: February 09, 2008, 09:59:53 PM »
how about adding a bigger map pack the future builds? instead of just midnight and ksplat. atleast add some of the more popular maps to the d/l.

dunno if this has been discussed, or if the title is even correct, i just think it may be a decent idea.

discuss.

in theory all the maps you need should be downloaded in a few seconds anyway if youre using the new builds.

obsolete. i agree though

in theory, it would be better to have the maps when you download the game.

in theory, we are not talking about that crappy ass game. this is the digital paintball forum.

in theory, it would be better to have the maps when you download the game.

Agreed. While adding maps you can also keep it smaller by not adding every single map.

You could also take some of the existing maps out of the installer, like siegecastle, midnight and other crap like that.

I don't see the point. Download is already darn instant.

Removing midnight, siegecastle, etc. wouldn't do anything. The newbies you are targeting would soon play those maps on pub and have to download them regardless.

Coincidentally, I was almost going to make a map pack from DP Resource's map DB today, until zip fscked up for me, and I figured that fast downloads negate all of it. (And if you wanted to download all the maps anyway, wget /archive/ off my server already works.)

i'd rather not have to go looking for a map, or maps rather, to d/l. i'd like to already have them installed and ready to use.

But you just have to wait... <5 seconds... no looking required.

Anyway, for *you*, you can just download one of the map packs available anyway. I don't think most newbies care or will know the difference.

Aren't the map packs that are available update frequently anyway?

i noticed, while i was installing the game just now, that there were only a handful of maps that came with the full installation. i honestly forget about the increased d/l speed that was implemented, since i haven't actually been playing recently. i still think it would be a good idea add some more of the common maps, just incase some of the newer players would like to check out some maps in single player mode. IMO midnight, ksplat, and oddjob don't really "Capture" attention. it would be nice if you would think about the Pros more than the Cons on this subject.

at the VERY least, include a link to a downloadable map pack.

I think it's perfect as it stands now, dial-up people have a faster download (Knack ;)), plus they already have a couple maps if they want to play offline/train with bots, or play locally, and if they ever get online most of the junk in pub is very small and a fast download (Uglyz, Uglyzam33, etc.)
