New Map: Windows 2008 (Remastered)
« on: February 10, 2008, 11:13:51 AM »
There's a bit of a story behind this so if you just want the map and screenies, scroll down.

I first played Windows by ExNuke as a scrim with #darkness about 2 months ago. It looked ugly as hell, but the gameplay was fun, and the spawn room recon made it an interesting map tactically. I played it, then forgot about it.
A few days, while trawling my maps folder, I found it again and as I was bored I decided to fix some bugs, relight it, generally make it more playable. I asked atmays for a contact email and sent him a request to release this. So far I have had no response.

ORIGINAL WINDOWS:

Download Windows

WINDOWS 2008 REMASTERED:

Waiting on ExNuke for a response before I release.

Only new/hr4 textures or some other changes too?
I changed the texures to better ones with HR4 versions, redid the middle, lit the map, add some much needed paint in the middle of the map, and after the screenshots I've changed the guns about and added a few obstacles.

Its amazing how much you can really change the looks of a map with very little amounts of work.  I hope Ex will respond.

Are those CTP textures or some of my terrain textures I released a while back?

It feels too bright considering you can't see the sun, but otherwise cool :)

The game play in the original was simple, yet fun.  With your new textures and lighting it looks better but did you change anything other the textures?  Anything that would make the game play and different?

I keep thinking this is a map about an operating system.

I was thinking of riddling it with bugs and releasing it as vista.bsp

Just put in like 20 reflective water surfaces, tons of pretty, but pointless rscript effects, and make it incompatible with older versions of paintball2.

But on a serious note, you might want to take out all of those items in the window as they do impact framerate, and just spawn people with equipment.  Also, play with clipping planes and make some pretty walls instead of those long, plain, flat ones.

I've got a response from ExNuke, I sent him the latest BSP for him to approve/disapprove.
