From earlier threads it appears that Jitspoe and the committee have made a ban of 1k days the penalty for distributing hacks.

My question is why?  Why is there such a long ban?

Don't get me wrong, I love it. I think it should be a permanent ban, and anyone who hacks should also get such a ban. But I want to know the rationale used for such a long ban.

It was basically unanimous by the committee.

WHen Jits says so.  And being that he's going to be a bit occupied for the next several days, I venture not any time soon

It was basically unanimous by the committee.

Alright, that is one piece of helpful info.

Now why did they do it? What was the rationale? That is my real question.

Any committee member want to weigh in?

In a nutshell without goign back over the committee posts:

THe committee in general is getting a bit tired of those cheating in any form and Jits isgetting tired of trying to chase them down in the GLS.

I feel like it is moving towards zero tolerance, but Jit will never let it get that far.

Thank you Knack. Anyone else on the committee feel free to weigh in.

Now Knack, if that is the feeling is there any thought of revising the rules for those actually hacking? 32 day is nothing. If Jits is tired of the current system's results then wouldn't trying stiffer penalties for actual hackers help even more?

In other words, if stiff penalties are meant to be a deterrent in the one case, why wouldn't they be in the other?

I don't necessarily agree with the 1024 day ban for distributing hacks solely because if you use the hack you only get 32 days.  But as Knack previously stated, a lot of people are fed up with all the hackers and want to remove them from the community all together.

Thank you for taking time to respond as a committee member. I appreciate it.

So would you consider upping the time for actual cheaters?

Knack is on the committee too, btw. My 2 cents on my votes for 1024 were that cheating in itself is bad, but helping others cheat as well? That's just low, and in kilo's case, especially, when you know they're going to be caught is just being an ass.

I would be more than willing to give someone a 1024 day ban for cheating and a perm ban for distributing or making cheats.

Thank you spook and zorch.

And zorch I would be fully in favor of the committee doing as you say.

Any other committee members want to weigh in?

Me personally I think that if distributing cheats gets a 1024 day ban, why doesn't actually using the cheat get the same ban time?  If everyone on the committee is leaning towards the no tolerance policy then why tolerate people using the cheat.  Distributing and Using I believe should be the same ban time.  I'm not sure who else agrees with me or disagrees with me on this matter but thats my 2 cents for the conversation.

I see you are a moderator. I have searched for the rule that would prohibit double posting, and asked about a rule but have yet to be informed of one. Perhaps you could direct me to one.

I wholeheartedly agree that they should both get the same. Both promote cheating. I would also say I think both should be harsh.

Etiquette. You don't need rules to be polite :P

I never thought it was anything but polite to give attention to each person's comment. That way they don't have to comb through a multi-quote thread to find where I might be speaking to them.

The other forums I have posted at over the years did not consider that rude.  Perhaps you can send me a pm with the rationale.
