How to Make Textures?

I don't know if there is already a thread on this(If there is I couldn't find one)

How do you make custom textures?

If there is already a thread could someone lead me to the right place?

I think he more meant where to start.  Search Google for gimp, a free photoshop, and then Google some gimp tutorials.  In no time you'll be able to create basically anything you need.  And if you have a digital camera/understand the concept of alpha layers (Google again) then you will be able to make realistic life like textures!!
