BATTLE BUTTERFLIES!!!

Careful, they're vicious!

BTW they are flying and fighting in mid air, not sitting on twigs, as it may seem.

another sleepless night.

idk if there is something wrong with my editing, or if my lens isn't focusing right or what, but my pictures have not been coming out too great. they all look out of focus or "soft." of course you can't really tell by these small pictures, but if i were to post the original edits you can clearly see the blur.

i'm going to be purchasing a Canon 50mm 1.8 lens in the next few days. i'm also going to order an external flash. can't wait to see what happens with that. i got some ideas in my head. hope they turn out good.

Here's one of our two new kitties!!!
Took this with my 40D w/50mm f1.4 @ f1.4 ISO400. Notice the small strip of focus area through the shot from the couch, across the carpet, and to the kitty.

IMHO, unless you are going to get the 70-300 with IS, the good one, don't bother. The low-end 70-300 is really really cheap feeling and not that great glass. I would go for the 70-200 f4.0L @ around $500. This is similar in cost to the descent 70-300, but WAY above it in glass quality. The 70-200 f4.0 series is said to be one of the sharpest long zooms available.

You should absolutely love that 50mm f1.8. I almost got that, but had the extra jack and went for the next up. The only difference, besides the .4 fstop, is the bokeh. With the f1.8 your bright DOF spots (like the one just to the right of the kitty's head) will show kind of like octagons because there are less shutter blades. It really makes little difference and the f1.8, from my readings, is outstanding at under $100.

BTW, what body are you shooting?

well i got the 75-300 for $80. can't really beat that. it's still in pretty good condition. i'm sure i can get rid of it for a little bit more once i want something better. so it's all good.

i was actually researching a few lenses before i purchased the 50. next lens while either be a 10-20mm wide angle or a 8mm or 15mm fish eye lens.

i ordered a circular polarizer that's supposed to filter out those little "light shapes." also placed the order for an external flash. should be here soon.

i shoot a Canon 350d(xt).

why does that picture look so grainy? you sure it was at 400ISO? looks weird to me.

It's one of those light plastic practice balls so I was fairly safe and a good distance away.

Notice she keeps her head down!!! We go to the driving range all the time...she can hit!

Or golf clubs ;)

coLa: You should try some photographs without the post effects.  I'm not really a fan of the excessive fake HDR effect.  The photos seem to lose so much depth.
